Honors biology kids

First up:   I need you to read this little article and watch the 3 minute clip that goes with it-this might take you 5 minutes and it's talking about that first cell that grows into a human! http://alliance.nautil.us/article/262/obsessed-with-blastocysts Next- FINALLY! Radio lab podcast link: http://www.radiolab.org/story/cellmates/  I would just take a walk and listen to it and maybe jot down some notes on your phone of stuff you think is interesting. Try not to worry too much, just LISTEN, if you have reasonable questions just bring them up on Monday. REMEMBER: Monday we will start the planting science investigation and hopefully add transport to our white sheet. Have a great weekend! By the way: I'm loving this new site I found. If you are a curious little turtle you should check it out too.   http://alliance.nautil.us/

By the way my Monarchs are getting big! https://www.biologicaldiversity.org/news/press_releases/2016/monarch-butterfly-07-05-2016.html I'm pretty sure this one should be headed to Mexico soon!! 1. Chloroplast- organelle found only in plant cells, it makes chemical energy (sugar/ glucose) using solar energy (sunlight) to combine water and carbon dioxide.  2. Mitochondrion (singular) - responsible for breaking down sugar (glucose from plants) into a more usable form (ATP) for our cells. Found in animal cells and plant cells. Cells that do more work have more mitochondria in their cells (muscle cells and sperm cells have the most!). 3. Centrioles- organelles found only in animal cells that are only active during cell division (mitosis) where their job is to make sure that duplicated DNA strands get pulled apart evenly. 4. Ribosomes- found in plant and animal cells, they are responsible for building proteins and enzymes in a cell by using instructions they receive from the DNA via an R...
